“We have twice fought for the right to host the Olympics in Baku, but our bids for hosting the Olympic Games of 2016 and 2020 have failed. The International Olympic Committee sets tough requirements to the candidates. If they ease their demands, Baku will consider possible bidding for hosting the Olympic Games of 2024. Otherwise, we will need huge state investments.
For example, the stadium in Baku now seats 68,000 spectators and International Olympic Committee requires at least 80,000. All the same, everyone knows Beijing’s example where the Bird’s nest arena is almost not used”, Rahimov reports.
The deadline for bidding to host Olympic Games 2024 is 15 September 2015.
Rome, Hamburg and Boston have already submitted their bids. Budapest authorities earlier stated their intention to bid for hosting the Games.
